Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead - Neeraja Nair

“When she was eight years old, Bridget Barsamian woke up in a hospital, where a doctor told her she wouldn’t live.”Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead is a book about a girl named Bridget Barsamian who goes by Bridge. The story is about how Bridge overcomes her fears in life. Bridge was in an accident when she was 8 years old and doctors thought she wouldn’t live for very long. Now she’s in 7th grade and has friends that are supportive of her and her decisions. She also makes a new friend, Sherm, and she learns some interesting things from him such as how he doesn’t believe the landing on the moon is real. Alongside Bridge’s story, Sherm’s side of the story is also told.

Although I’ve already read this book before, I enjoy reading it again. The first time I was a bit confused on the format of the book but the second time I read through it, I understood it a lot better.

I really liked how well readers are able to connect with the characters in the book. I felt like it made the story a lot more enjoyable and I definitely found myself relating to how the characters in the book were feeling.

I really like how the book is written. The story is not told from 1 person’s point of view but 3. The first person that the story is told from is Bridge. The story is also told from Sherm’s, Bridge’s new friend’s, point of view. The story is also told from another person’s point of view. The reader does not know who the narrator is for that section but they will find out at the end of the book.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for an easy read. The book is a very carefree story with very much thought put into it. The book is also good if you like stories where you can relate to the characters.
